Decided not to drink
Good Afternoon,
I wanted to post as I mentioned to Stephanie I would post on Sundary regarding drinking of alcohol on Saturday at the parade.
Well, I was a big chicken as I did not want to get sick. I did take a sip of Jack & Coke (my favorite) but coke does not even taste good and I would much rather have tea.
The parade was a blast as always and so many more entries this year. It gets bigger and bigger every year. I ate my subway sandwich, and took a thermos of hot chocolate which I drank the whole thing. I am so glad I decided at the last minute to take hot chocolate with us.
I mentioned to the group of family and friends we were with that this is one day in my life I can actually say "I MISS MY FAT" to keep me warm. Of course alcohol helps to keep you warm as well, but since I was not interested in getting sick I chose to stay sober and it is O.K. with me. This is a choice I made knowing that I probably would not ever drink again. Regardless of drinking, I had a blast with my hubby, son his girlfriend and some of their friends. We laughed, froze, danced, froze, they drank, froze, I had hot chocolate and of course froze more than anyone else there.
Today as it is raining I am so happy. I LOVE THE RAIN. It means no work for the guys I work with, but I just love it and miss the 4 seasons of New Mexico. I wore my jacket most of the day, came home and put a sweat shirt on. I have never ever been able to wear a jacket while working at my desk and wearing a sweat shirt has just always felt very uncomfortable. I stayed nice and toasty as I am right now. I have never been able to sleep with PJ pants and believe it or not, I am asking for flannel PJ's for Christmas because I am cold all the time. I guess it could be worse, I could be 70 lbs. heavier again. I think I can learn to like flannel PJ's.
Well, stay nice and toasty everyone and be careful if you are out on the road.

Hi Elizabeth,
The parade is always lot's of fun. I mostly enjoy people watching. People really are a trip. I could spend all day at a crowded event jus****ching people and it intrigues me as to what makes people do the things they do, and not even know that someone is watching them.
As for trying things, I have tried just about everythng I used to eat. I have had no problems with anything except a hotdog at a ball game one day. Yesterday I made hotdogs for lunch and I was able to eat it. I put it in a bun, with cheese, mustard, and hormel chili. I cut it up and ate it with a fork. No problems. I have had popcorn, I limit my bread to once a week, pasta may be 5 noodles if that, rice is about 2 tsp unless I have a salad or vege.
I guess the only fear I really have is alcohol. During my orientation, doctors talk, nutritionist, support meetings, they could not stress enough about the alcohol going straight to your liver. My blood work for liver usually runs on the high side and I certainley don't need any help to make it worse. I actually saw 3 different people get up and walk out of our classes because of the drinking. Who am I to put people down for things they like. I still have not quit smoking. I gave up food and not ready to give up my smoking. Someday.
I will not chew gum anymore, I have had a craving for a soda once and just took a drink of my hubby's. Craving gone. I have had a piece of chicken stuck once. Never ever again. The Papaya enzyme really does work for breaking down the food. Over the weekend I ate a little too fast and could feel my pouch acting up like as if something was getting stuck or trying to pass. I chewed 4 tablets and that feeling went away very quick. As for the stuck chicken, I had no papaya enzyme and let me tell you, I could not even drink water it hurt soooooo bad.
I will try to stay warm and you do the same my friend.
Annette

I don't drink, and didn't drink before surgery either, so drinking is not something I ever deal with. There are alot of people that do, and they do watch what and how much they drink. The cold thing Annette, is not because you have lost weight, it has something to do with an enzeyme that we are missing now. I don't know which one it is, but my friend that I worked with had surgery last year around this time. Well he started the cold thing almost immediately. Guess he did a lot of research as to why we are so cold all the time. Doesn't make me happy because I am always cold now, but I still like being cold and wearing something soft and cuddly, also what is it now with the flannels we want. I could never sleep with PJ bottoms on, always a long t shirt, now I can't wear enough PJ's it's just different.
How did you drink the chocolate? Sugar free or whatever, I get sick on hot chocolate...good for you being able too.

I've never heard anything about an enzyme.....can you find out more info Diane? I'm really curious. I would guess that maybe with RNY it could be an enzyme issue, but not in Lap Band since they didn't change anything physically...just added the band....and yet I'm FREEZING!

Diane,
I did my share of drinking in HS, College and when Arnold and I first met. After kids were born drinking was during holidays, an evening out or a big weekend bbq. In the cold, it does help warm you up though, even when your fat. LOL I did not miss the drinking at the parade. I had a wonderful time filled with lot's of love and laughter. My husbands family calls me "CHUCKLES" as I love to have fun and laugh no matter where I am. Too think I was the designated driver that night, the only sober one and I could not find our truck. OMG there are no street signs where we parked. The truck was right in front of us and my husband and sons girlfriend saw it and they were wasted. Makes me think that maybe I should have had at least 1 drink. Maybe then I would have been able to see better. HA HA
For the hot chocolate, I had some of the Swiss Miss (I think that's what it's called) diet hot chocolate I bought for after my surgery. I mixed 2 packets of diet with 2 packets of regular in ho****er (lactose intollerant), and I had no problem with it. I truly have been very, very lucky with not having a problem with anything. Sugar does not have an adverse reaction on me, other than the fact I am taking diabetic tablets. I try to limit my sugar to very little. The only reason I mixed the diet with regualar is bacause I only had 2 diet packages left.
As for the cold, I too have been cold since surgery. I like that I can add clothes or a blankie to keep me warm because being fat you are always HOT and we all know that running around naked is not exactly something pleasant to look at. LOL Well, my husband likes chasing me around fat or not. Shhhhhhh don't tell him I told you.
As for PJ's I have always slept in a sleep shirt total commando underneath. I still have not put pants on to sleep, 1. because I don't have pj bottoms, 2. i'm afraid I am going to get all tangled up. I am getting tangled in my sleep shirt now because I have not bought new ones and they are size 4x and I am wearing a 2x. I am however going to K-mart on the advice of Jackie and buy me a couple pairs of jammies on sale. If I get tangled up I can always take them off. WATCH OUT NOW!!! ha ha
I have a question for you or anyone else that might have some input: For the last couple of days I have noticed that when I get up I get dizzy. Kind of like a vase-a-vagel (sp?) effect. Has this ever happened to you or anyone else out there? I see my PCP on Wednesday and will bring this up with her. I am eating enough, getting my fluids in, taking all my vitamins. Maybe I need to be taken off some med's that I am on. I do need to get back to tracking calorie, protein intake. I got lazy and stopped a while back.
Ok, enough for now. Stay warm and hope you are getting around much better.

Hi Annette,
It's the meds that are making you dizzy. I know because when I was losing weight, my stupid PCP had me still taking the same number and dosages as when I was pre-op. It got progressively worse as I continued to lose weight. So, you need to be weaned off of your medicine.
You are a confirmed member of the WLS fold, you are cold all of the time. Congrats on losing the weight.

Hey Jackie,
We were going to go to the SB parade and I decided to shampoo my carpet and start decorating.
I am off on Wednesday so I will definitley check out K-Mart for pj's.
I know about the AC. I used to feel like I could not breathe and the air had to be on full blast. Now it's like: HELLOOOOOO - I'M FREEZING MY ASS OFF PEOPLE. The kids and Arnold get mad because I have the heater on full blast in the car and at home now. I pay the bill, so I don't care.
Hoping to see you on the 19th at Coffee if I can make it. This is my company's Christmas party and we see Dave Koz on the 20th. I need to get grocery and Christmas dinner shopping done so I may not see you until January.
Hope you are feeling well and able to eat a little better these days.
Holla at yur gurl now,
Annette
